The peoples' voice first; the elite second
Don't put too much faith in "leadership." People in the ivory towers don't know what it's like for us on the street. Even when they proclaim their love and support for the little people, I know from harsh experience that the elites can marginalize their own.
Examples without naming names? Sure. In 2005 I was told by the rep of a prominent First Nations organization that: "Racism is not a problem. If you experienced it then that's too damn bad. Nothing can be done about it. Nothing should be done about it."
1000 characters is not enough to elaborate on the problems with putting the voices of the elite above all others, but hopefully people reading this will understand. If not the elites, then the people.
