Fostering understanding at grassroots level
Back in 1980s and 1990s, there were a variety of exchanges between communities in Quebec and in “English Canada” outside Quebec. They didn’t solve all French-English issues in this country but the concrete insights and understanding they helped foster did enrich the discussion.
Taking to heart the saying “Walk a mile in another's mukluks,” a similar program (not sure of the details) might be created for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities in and around our city. To be successful, it would have to be supported and driven by the grassroots, on both sides.
