Discrimination, not just racism
As a volunteer at a drop-in centre/lunch program for homeless and marginalized people, it is apparent that our clients experience not only racism (especially our First Nations brothers and sisters), but discrimination if they are dealing with mental health issues. Native people dealing with mental health issues are doubly ostracized. Clara Hughes has done a real service in bringing the issue of mental health to the forefront. Funding speaking engagements by her to school, community and church groups would do a lot to teach our community how to treat people with mental health issues.
