First Nations and Métis History Month

Black History Month, held annually in the United States, Great Britain, and Canada, has done an excellent job of raising awareness of Black contributions to history as well as showcasing Black culture. As Manitoba has such a significant population of First Nations and Métis peoples why not create a a similar special month that celebrates the contributions, achievements and cultures of these groups through education campaigns and festivities and events in which the broader community may participate? If done right such a month would also do a great deal in promoting Manitoba's unique heritage and image as a respectful, friendly, and inclusive province.
