Racism should be nailed but freedom of speech needs to be protected. The latter should not facilitate the former. Where racism can be proved it should be prosecuted. That is what the courts are for and perhaps the laws need a change but we must protect freedom of speech. We all have differing opinions and beliefs and no one belief or opinion should be allowed to stifle another. This has happened in Canada sadly and needs to be addressed. Hate crimes are one thing but need to be better defined. Polite discussion or debate reflecting cross cultural and other differences of opinion reflect our diverse culture and peoples and this should be protected and enshrined in our societal laws and codes.
