I believe that we should start acknowledging our race related issues by addressing it aggressively in the school system. I think children would benefit from annual cultural weeks that are meant to celebrate our differences and learn about others. Moreover, since aboriginal folks are a huge part of our culture and population (and are often the brunt of racism here in Winnipeg), aboriginal cultural weeks would be beneficial as well. I think that parents and teachers would benefit from cultural sensitivity courses to ensure they speak positively of others and lift them up rather than tear them down.
