homes for everyone
I like how The Avenue on Portage has apartments for everyone. Some are subsidized as Manitoba Housing and some are rented out for regular price. Especially in such a high demand area like downtown, it is a good transition for people who want to get out of the North and West End, but also ideal for young professionals and people who want to be closer to the center of the city. It physically brings people together, erasing the lines of upper and lower classes, it builds trust as well. Someone who is from St. James and rarely around Aboriginal people is put in a situation to be neighbour's with someone they wouldn't have been otherwise. Even a simple Hello or Good Morning while passing in the halls of your building will start to change stereotypes.
