addressing racism

I work in the medical/nursing field & the most challenging area for me is hearing racist comments in my work environment especially when aboriginal people stand up for their rights i.e. OKA crisis, IDLE NO MORE, etc. I have worked in this field for 35 years & the racist comments have not changed. I do my best to ignore the comments & continue with my work as a nurse, applying my Ojibway teachings to those who seek nursing care. I believe we need more supports in educating everyone, including myself about how Aboriginal Peoples have contributed enormously to the newcomers in the 1800s to now.
Unfortunately in my profession, we see more illness than wellness.
